NCSKC was formed in 2005 by Sensei Stuart Sadler. It is affiliated with “Jin Sei Kai”, under world-renowned chief instructor Sensei Paul Perry (8th Dan).
The name “Jin Sei Kai” was given by Master Hirokazu Kanazawa (the only remaining living Shotokan master in the world to hold 10th Dan) and translates as “Human Life Association”.
This in itself has many deep meanings, evident in the biomechanically efficient way NCSKC practises karate, allowing maximum power in technique as well as health benefits.
NCSKC practise traditional karate with a self-defence orientation, though participation in competition is also supported by the club. As well as the blocking and striking techniques commonly associated with karate, the often ignored aspects of grappling, chokes, locks, strangles and ground fighting are also covered. Regular gradings are held jointly between NCSKC and Newcastle University SKC to help you progress.

NCSKC has a strong social scene and regularly attends seminars and courses throughout the country with other renowned instructors.
The aim of NCSKC is to become eclectic rather than individual, borrowing aspects from other styles that aid "karate" rather than "shotokan" in general. As a result, cross-training is thoroughly encouraged by Sensei Sadler as he believes that no-one system is truly independent nor can one system hold the answer to everything. Previous training has included attending seminars from the likes of Neil Adams (judo), Billy Doak (Jitsu), Iain Abernethy, Dave Hazard (Karate) and Russell Stutely (various).
Typical lessons at NCSKC may include:
- Kihon, kumite and kata
- "Forgotten" lock, chokes, strangles and grappling aspects of karate
- Flow drills
- Randori & Hajime-training
- Mental desensitisation
- Specific weapons training (bo, nunchaku)
- Guest Instructors
- Specific Self-defence, fitness and stretching sessions
- Pressure-point fighting
- Outdoor Training
The club also attends an annual beach training weekend , camping in Northumberland where open hand and weapons training is mixed with sun, sea and relaxation… and an ultimate Frisbee/no-holds-barred football competition!
